Being A Student
Encaustic is such a unique medium. It has some technical and supply complexities that can prevent a curious mind from trying. I enjoy having small classes to share what I have learned thus far. I have done classes at West high art club and at my studio. Teaching reminds me of why I do what I do. Teaching gets me excited to try something for the fun of it. A typical class is 3 hours long and we make a small piece together and play with different techniques. Teaching and sharing builds community and friendships.
I also enjoy being a student. I have committed to going to classes twice a year. Covid has put a damper on some of these opportunities, but where there’s is a will there is a way. You never know what idea or moment will take you down a different path to even better ideas. I have a class that was postponed from September 2020 to October 2021. It is a 2 week course at EOM Studios in Clew Bay, Mayo Ireland. I am so excited to be inspired, see things with a different lens and be challenged by Jane Davies and abstract instructor from NY.
I am a person that thrives off of knowing that I have something out there to look forward to and work towards.
