Follow Your Curiosity
I have always been a creative person, curious about all sorts of mediums and ideas. In college, I enjoyed pottery, sculpture and watercolor. I‘ve painted murals for kids rooms. I like arranging flowers & I’ve even made some of my own jewelry. I like to make unique jean jackets, handmade cards….this list goes on and on.
When attending a Billings Artwalk, I came across an encaustic piece. I was unfamiliar with this medium and couldn’t understand what it was and how it worked. The very kind store clerk explained encaustic and said “You should get a kit and just try it!” Those words stuck with me – she was speaking my language. It was just what I needed to hear. It happened to be around Christmas, so I rationalized it as a gift to myself. I went to Dick Blicks art website and ordered myself the encaustic starter kit. I would spend hours in my garage experimenting with this medium. I enjoyed watching it come to life and wanted to keep learning more and more. I joked that I should of just bought that piece that I was so interested in and saved myself all the time and money, but the the truth is encaustic time and energy has been a very healing, rewarding, joy in my life and has led me to many journeys, new friends and mentors.
I am so grateful that I “just tried it” and followed my curiosity.
